Week Six at PCC is the final week of the series. During the sixth week, we focus on accessorizing. I could spend two weeks on this subject alone!! What a lot of information. I am big on window coverings (more blogging on this later!) and just get to touch on it during the class.
Here are my little “pearls” for accessorizing:
Form follows Function. What does this mean??? Figure out what the function of the room is BEFORE you allow the form (layout/design) to take over. Functionality is ALWAYS your first priority.
Think in threes. It’s proven. Visually, unless you’re going for perfect symmetry, everything looks better in odd numbers. Fives will work, sevens will work, but threes are easiest. Even these items from one of my many catalogs (photographed by highly trained, professional photographers) shows items grouped in threes!
A Touch of Black. Add a little black to your room. Three times at least…and move it around the room for balance. In this photo, from BHG, you’ll notice small touches of black balanced around the room that ‘ground’ the space.
Color is your friend. Don’t be afraid. Even if you don’t want to paint your walls, throw some color in the room (at least…three!…times). While this mix of colors in this room from BHG might scare you at first, wouldn’t it be fun??
