Here we go!
It’s finally here, 4th of July!! Let us help you design your Perfect 4th of July Bash. You know what that means! Cookouts, BBQ’s, ice cream, sparklers, family and friends, and of course, FIREWORKS! Can you tell this is one of my favorite holidays of the year?? I love get togethers with family, friends, and food; especially a themed get together. Maybe it’s that decorator spark in my soul but I love to make a party that’s good over the top awesome! How do we do that folks? That’s right, we theme our decor, we make the food match the decor, we make all the things the decor!!
Not good at decor? That’s why I’m here! I’m going to help you pull together the most spectacular 4th of July bash ever! Listen, we deserve it. We’ve been inside for so long that this mandatory party is super deserved! Now lets put our designer hats on and get to this party planning!
Food…
All right, what do we need when we’re planning a party? Well FOOD, duh… I’m not a cook or baker but I do know what colors go best together and how to make a themed dish. What you can focus on here are the classics, burgers, hot dogs, alcoholic beverages (yes yes yes), potato salad, etc. but we have to add in that special little something. Got cupcakes? You should go grab some. Then add these super cute toppers and voila! A sweet 4th day treat!
Another super easy way to create a themed 4th food is to create a fruit salad using blueberries, strawberries, and bananas! Follow this recipe, chop those berries, and create that flag like Betsy Ross!
Dishware…
Okay, so we’ve got the food, the fruit flag, now we have to think about what we’re going to eat off of… plates! That’s right! Gosh you’re smart! Okay, we’re environmentally conscious so we want to use some plates that are nice to the environment. Bamboo plates are perfect! Add a red or blue colored paper napkin to mix in some color.
But what about some accent plates to put some cheese, watermelon, or burger toppings on? Now you’re thinking like a designer! We love these plates from Pottery Barn with a classic stars and stripes motif. They add some pattern, color, and yes, class, because those babies are real! Hands off kids!
Table Decor & A Little Extra…
Now that we have the food and plates, we need to think about the table this is all sitting on… We have to jazz it up with a table runner! Since we have a mix of stars and stripes on the plates this runner will go perfectly! That way we’re mixing patterns and not making the table too matchy matchy (see my blog on pattern mixing *wink*).
Now I don’t know about you but I’m that person that finds all the animals at a party… imagine that animal was wearing a themed bandana?? Yep, we found one that’s star spangled all over, it’s perfection!! Oooh I can see the designer party vibes now!
Accessories…
Okay, now on to the really fun stuff! I always say accessories in a room really bring a space to life. Well, the same is true with parties! Get some cute little American flags and find some places to put them. Examples: you can place them in flower arrangements, candy bowls, vases, the center of a cake, or plants.
Another accessory I love to use at themed parties, straws!! Take a look at these super cute straws that spice up any drink you choose to serve!
Lastly, on our small accessories kick, themed treat bags!! Aren’t they great?! You can put whatever you like in them, cookies, sparklers, sunglasses, whatever! It’s a great little gift that your guests will love and they’ll look great with the decor!
The Big Moment…
Alright, now for the creme…. At every party I throw I try to make sure there are some big “moments” happening. What does that mean? Well a moment is kind of like a focal point in design. It’s something that you immediately look at when you walk in a room, or party, because its big, bold, and really pops! Creating those moments at your party will set you apart from the average burger flipping, 4th of July BBQ.
Create a moment by choosing a space to be the focal feature. I usually choose a blank wall that I can add to and create an amazing moment (while still utilizing all my available space for guests). The best options from my experience for this wall are to either create a social media moment or create a backdrop for the food table. If the crowd is younger a social media moment will be SOOOO appreciated, gotta look good for the gram! If your crowd is a little less tech savvy and little more into socializing then have your “moment” as a backdrop to the food.
Either way, it’ll look great and you’ll get tons of compliments. But wait! I haven’t told you how to make it! Easy, buy this kit and go wild with your clear tape! Tip: Try to keep everything relatively close together on the wall so it’ll have the most impact.
Last, but certainly not least, FIREWORKS!!! But hold up… we’re in SoCal, we can’t set off fireworks! Girl, I got you! Check out these amazing lights from Etsy that look like a bursting firework! Now you can have your fireworks all night long (like that Lionel Richie song)….all nigghhttt. I digress. Now just add some sparklers to the mix and you’ve got one kick butt 4th of July bash!
Well I hope this gave you some amazing ideas for your upcoming 4th of July bash!! Remember, mix patterns, use color, theme all the things, and most importantly, HAVE FUN!!!
