In our staging business, we think it’s best to stage the entire home. But if a seller wants minimal staging, we offer our base package that includes the main living area, dining area, and primary suite.
Why do we always include the primary bedroom? With most properties, the person living in the space makes the buying decision. Therefore, it is essential that this space is styled in a most becoming manner.
Today, we are sharing 4 tips to help you stage a beautiful primary suite. Take a look…
Tip 1: Use Natural, Muted Colors
In a primary suite, we like to layer in rugs and several sizes of pillows on the bed to blend with the current on-trend look in Southern California called California Casual. This trend includes soft, muted colors with lots of neutral fabrics, textures, and layers. We strive for a style that is not TOO formal but not casual, either.
In staging, we generally adhere to what’s on-trend. We prefer this description over the term trendy. It’s a slight difference, but we want our staging to nod to what is trending but not so trendy that the buyers feel the home might be outdated.
Pro Tip: A throw at the foot of the bed and a soft rug underfoot will make the primary suite feel like a luxurious retreat.
Tip 2: Display Only Essential Accessories
We always emphasize de-cluttering. Otherwise, it’s hard for buyers to picture themselves living with your clutter. But beyond simple decluttering, you want buyers to feel at home.
When we stage primary bedrooms, we always include lighting — and you should too. It is not enough to have overhead can lighting, especially in a bedroom. Adding a pretty overhead fixture is definitely a plus, but bedside and dresser lamps bring a warm light into the space. You’ll instantly create a cozy and welcoming room.
Tip 3: Select a Headboard if Necessary
If the space lacks a headboard, get one. This simple piece of furniture will help ground the bed and make the room feel finished. We’re going for elegance, not college dorm!
A headboard doesn’t need to be expensive. Many of the ones we use in staging we actually buy on Amazon! They have amazing styles that are not tremendously expensive but lend themselves to that finished look you’re going for when selling your property. Tip 4: Scale & Size Everything Appropriately
In ALL things, pay attention to the scale of your selections. For example, if we are styling a large room, we’ll use a king-sized bed, larger nightstands, and overscaled lamps. An area rug is also a great touch but should match the room’s size.
Pro Tip: The bigger the room and the bed, the larger the rug.
If you’re struggling to get your home ready for sale, we can help. A staged and well-styled home always sells faster and for more money than one that has not been properly prepped for sale.
