Paint Problems
I love a blue room. And all the room images I saved as favorites and ideas had blue paint. All the fabrics selected are light and neutral, textural. Elegant. So I picked out the “perfect” blue. SW Lullaby. But I’m a smart cookie and know enough to ALWAYS test a color before applying. So I bought a sample.
Uh Oh. It was not good. Looked like newborn baby boy blue. So I ordered four more. This was not going well. I REALLY wanted color on the wall to set off all the pale neutrals but it simply wasn’t working. I ordered a single white sample. SW Toque White. The husband, the painter (also my handyman and brother-in-law who has an excellent eye!) and I fell for this great color.
Sherwin Williams Toque White
I’ve never used it before but I cannot WAIT to use it again! Just slightly off white for a nice contrast with the trim color. No pink undertones, no yellow undertones, just a hint of grey without reading grey. I’m in love. The best part is the hubs liked it too.
But… Uh Oh….
The Rubik’s Cube
Often when you make a change in a design plan, it seems inconsequential at first. But designing a space is a bit like a Rubik’s Cube. You remember these, right? They start all organized and matching but with one twist, you’ve blown it up!
Well that is what I did by changing the paint color. I’m on a schedule, the drapery panels have arrived, the bedding is here and my plan is set. So what’s affected???
- My Drapery Panels are here. They’re white. In fact almost the same color as the walls. And I really like them!
- My fabrics are here. They’re light neutrals. Not a huge problem.
- My nightstands are planned. I bought these nightstands years ago and they’re solid, a pretty shape and perfectly sized for the space. Not too big and not diminutive either! They’re currently black and in terrible shape but in a week, they’ll be getting painted and I’ve got it ALL planned out. And they’re supposed to be – WHITE (well, light, anyway). And I’ve got the prettiest gold hardware arriving next week. Dang.
So suddenly I need adjustments. I opted to add some luxurious trim to my drapery panels. Found it! Gorgeous. From one of my favorite fabric houses. I only need 20 yards. Gulp. That is going to cost HOW MUCH??? Luckily for me, I remembered Etsy and found a great replacement that I immediately ordered and am waiting for. Fingers crossed it arrives on time.
Looking forward to seeing the bedroom update.
