I’m not sure what it is, but lately all I see at the head of the bed {in the decor blogosphere} are padded headboards. Don’t get me wrong, I love them too, but I’m amazed at how “out there” they are! I think part of their draw is their versatility. They can be elegant, casual, colorful or neutral. They can big or small, tufted or smooth. Masculine or feminine. Inexpensive or SUPER expensive. I love them as they add an extra element of texture into a room. A new place for fabric (and I’m ALL about the fabric!). Fabric translates into pattern, color, and texture options.
Headboards are also the starting point for a great room design. Since the bed is the centerpiece of a BEDroom, the headboard is sort of the jewel in the crown. Select a style that sings to you and design your room around it.
Just for fun, let’s take a look at a few of these from some fab designers. Most of these are custom creations, and you too can go custom. If custom isn’t your thing, your budget or your patience, Wayfair.com has a large assortment of padded headboards. Follow this link to shop on your own or view my hacks and direct links below! Happy shopping :).
Cover your entire wall with padding…behind the bed, behind the lights. Great sound absorbtion and a great look. Check these out to recreate your own – Padded Headboard Squares
It’ll take some visualization of course, but visit this link to see how you can improvise the bed surround than create a giant padded headboard in the niche you’ve created and don’t forget the lighting :).
Purchase one of Wayfair’s affordable headboards and frame it out with molding from your local hardware store! Or check out this one that has most of the same properties.

Picture this: Build the box frame shown above with quality lumber from your hardware store. Purchase TWO wall mount tufted padded headboards and flip them on their sides (cut the legs off!)! Cool, huh?
