Spring Cleaning. Such an antiquated, old fashioned thought, right? In doing a bit of research for this we discovered that it’s not really THAT old fashioned at all! Everyone (in our highly official, highly regulated study – NOT) agreed that there is something enjoyable about the process. But of course the best part is the finish. How it feels to be DONE and be looking around at a clean and sparkling home.
Included on the spring cleaning list are the following:
- Organize Cabinets (see details below)

- Reseal Countertops
- Clean Wood Floors and Rugs – Have area rugs professionally cleaned
- Clean or Update Bedding

- Clean Dishwasher

The best way to execute is to make a plan. Don’t simply wake up on Saturday morning and decide over coffee that you’re going to do this. You MIGHT be able to accomplish it but maybe better with a plan. To help you out, we’ve attached a Spring Cleaning Day Schedule!
- Use Tupperware Containers or small clear plastic containers from Target or container store to organize items within your cabinet.
- Tall items at the back, short at the front
- Organize each bin by type of item, by use, or by usability
- Try to store things filed instead of stacked for easy visibility and accessability
How to Clean Mattress:
- Open Windows
- Strip the bed and clean all sheets/bedding
- Vacuum Mattress
- Sprinkle baking soda all over the mattress
- Vacuum up baking soda
- Put mattress protector on/purchase one
- Remake the bed with freshly laundered sheets
How to Clean Bookshelf:
- Take everything off shelves
- Divide into piles: Books/Knick Knacks/Photos/Etc.
- Go over each item with a fresh cloth to remove dust
- Try to remember bulk at the bottom, mix at the top
- Create moments on your shelf by deciding what you want to showcase, mix items on each shelf. For example have 5-7 books, a knick knack and a larger photograph that you want to showcase.
- Step back and see if you have a well balanced visual. Rearrange as needed. Or check out this article for details help.
How to Clean Refrigerator:
- Take everything out of the fridge
- Take an all purpose cleaner and a scrub brush and clean out all corners, drawers, and shelves.
