MANY, many years ago when we bought our first home, we ended up purchasing a builder spec home. We previewed the floorplan on another lot and our house hadn’t even been dug in yet! It was a great experience to make decisions that fit my design aesthetic. It was our first home AND we had a baby on the way so we couldn’t go crazy with upgrades. However we did a little splurge on our powder room. We figured it was something all our guests could see and once the selections were complete, my husband referred to this small space as our little jewel box!
1. Powder Room are Prime Spaces for Color
The nice thing about a powder room is it is typically a small space so changing it periodically won’t break the bank! This makes it a great place to experiment with your style. You can be bold and select a crazy wallpaper or experiment with color.
It’s always a good idea for your space to flow nicely with adjacent spaces. The powder room gives you the option to take that style and go crazy in either direction. If your home is over the type in design style, maybe your powder room exudes a spa-like, serene vibe. On the other hand, if your main living spaces are an elegant and understated style, consider amping up the style in this mini boudoir!
2. Add Statement Lighting for Some Pop
Almost every article I write there is SOME reference to lighting. Lighting is literally everything. So it will come as no surprise that I’ll suggest amazing lighting in this room as well! From something fabulous overhead to ravishing sconces, this is an easy place to add high impact. And if you don’t know what to spend crazy sums of money? You know I’ll have an Amazon solution to get you through ;).
3. Use Finishes to Elevate the Elegance
Regarding your vanity? You’ll want to think about the functionality just a little bit. Do you need a bit of storage? If your powder room is out of the way, you may want a bit of space for cleaning supplies, and definitely extra TP. If that is not an issue you could consider a pedestal sink or other open vanity and utilize a pretty box or textured basket to hide the minimum amount of supplies needed.
Your powder room should cater to your guests needs. Soap, cloth and disposable hand towels are a must. (cloth for you and your fam and the disposable for guests. less laundry!). But also? Lotion, mouthwash can be nice. A small stash under the sink of feminine products and a toilet spray are nice touches.
