Well… 2020 was a doozie (understatement of the year)! No one expected everything that was thrown our way. We all did our best to push through, keep our heads up, and keep moving forward. As a small business owner, I was presented with a lot of challenges that took some innovative problem solving, perseverance, and patience.
BUT I kept going and was thankful to have some amazing opportunities and projects come out of such a crazy time! So, in the spirit of the new year, I wanted to take some time to reflect on the best of 2020. Hang on to your hats friends as we review some of my favorite projects of 2020!
Pasadena Showcase House
One of my favorite projects that I got the opportunity to be a part of was the Pasadena Showcase House. It’s an annual event/fundraiser started in 1965 where a house in the Pasadena area is chosen for remodeling/redecorating. They then select Interior Designers who submit their work to redesign one room in the house. It’s an amazing display of creativity, design, and passion for the craft.
Getting chosen is a pretty big deal and I’ve been wanting to participate as a Designer ever since I moved back to Los Angeles. So, when I was chosen, I was over the moon! I redesigned the Office and Guest Bath on the main floor. I brought in tradespeople to redo flooring, tile, lighting, paint, bathroom fixtures, you name it, we touched it!
When I was creating the design for the Office I wanted to keep in mind the traditional aesthetics of the home while making it fresh, comfortable, and beautiful. SO, I went with my favorite colors, deep blue, soft golds, and you know I had to throw a zebra print in the mix! We also added some unexpected faux painted details in the hallway and guest bath to really push the design and surprise viewers!
One Room Challenge
Another project that I was psyched to do was the One Room Challenge! The ORC is a six-week, one room transformation challenge for selected Designers and participants. I decided to give my Master Bedroom a much-needed facelift (bonus I got to tell my husband it was for work)!
The Wallpaper Focal Wall
I chose some beautiful wallpaper for my accent wall, a gorgeous new bed frame, and custom bordered curtains to create an upscale, high end hotel suite feel. We couldn’t travel this year so I created a Master oasis getaway! …did I mention that I got my husband to help because it was a “work” project? A girl with a plan!
If you want to check out how I did put my bedroom together check out my blog! There were ups, downs, switch outs, last minute changes, all the things. BUT! I got it done!
Other Projects
I’ve also been working on projects for my Design Clients this year creating some beautiful spaces for them to enjoy! I’ll be adding those projects to my portfolio as they finish and we’re able to photograph safely. Stay tuned!
On the flipside, I’ve been working on the other side of my business too, staging! As the Real Estate market kept going, staging continued as an essential business. This means we got to finish some phenomenal projects and of course I have to share my favorite!
I really try to make all of my staging projects feel like design projects. Which creates a beautiful product and helps buyers visualize themselves in the home! This year I tried to push myself so I added more contrast, did more renovations, and tried to put together creative spaces that would surprise and delight! I hope you enjoyed some of my favorite spaces that I staged this year!
Remembering the year…
Overall this year has challenged all of us in different ways, but I know there’s also some good that’s come out of it. It’s great to take some time to look back and appreciate some of your accomplishments. I got a lot out of looking at mine in 2020 and I’m hopeful that there are many more to come in 2021!
