What is included in this design consultation?
The truth is it varies from client to client. Many designers will do a “free” consultation but hold back on information you can use. I would rather use our time to BOTH our benefit. These Initial design consultations are a great value! My goal is to actually accomplish things in our first appointment.
I am big on value added appointments. I know your time is valuable and mine is as well.
The beauty of a paid design consultation is that you will see how we as well as being really forthcoming with suggestions. It IS a creative process, so while not all situations can be addressed, at the end of the appointment, you’ll have a pretty good idea if you’d like us to work together! At the least, you’ll have some direction and ideas to get you started on your own. Depending on your goals and how you felt about me (remember YOU are the boss!) we schedule our next steps. It’s all very painless!
What happens in our appointment?
Our appointment will begin with a tour of your home or just the area of your home you want to share (now don’t get scared….no apologies, no guilt). You’ll tell me what you value in your home, what treasures you love, what makes you feel great about your home, and what you can’t stand. I will happily make suggestions as we go. I don’t hoard my suggestions! I am generous with my time.
After our tour we will sit down together and discuss your feelings about your project, your goals, your timeline and your budget (yes, your budget. You need one!).
We’ll then jump into the purpose of our meeting! If you’ve filled out the client questionnaire ahead of time, I’ll have an idea already of your style and preferences. If I’m there JUST for this appointment, we’ll focus on your top priorities. Lots can be accomplished during this time!
- We can select a paint color or two
- We can discuss window treatment options
- We can discuss best ways to re-purpose pieces of existing furniture
- OR we can create a shopping list of new furnishing purchases
- We can (on paper!) play with the floor plan
- I am happy to share resources available to you that you might not be familiar with
- We can come up with a quick budget for you
How long should I plan on?
It varies, but I schedule about a two hour window. We may run longer (no added charges!) but I find that after two hours, we’ve covered what we need to cover.
Take-aways
You are encouraged to take notes as work! I’ll be taking notes as well so if we are hired to help you, we’ll be ahead of the game and ready to start well prepared to kick of your project.
I know you’ll find the consultation useful on it’s merits as well. Occasionally this consultation is all that’s needed for an industrious homeowner to begin their own DIY project. And if you ne-d a little refresh, we can always schedule a follow up appointment or two!
How Much Does this Cost?
We charge $495 for our initial consultation. Once scheduled, you’ll be invoiced for the appointment in advance digitally and can easily pay with a credit card through a secure server.
