I’m a window treatment gal! But I know kitchen windows can be a little tricky. So rather than focus on how to style kitchen windows, let’s discuss why we style them.
You may think kitchen window treatments aren’t essential, unless perhaps for privacy. But I love how window treatments make a room feel warm and welcoming! In the kitchen, there aren’t lots of places to add fabrics in a kitchen, so beyond a hand towel, the windows are often the only place to bring in elements to soften the space.
I’m sharing 3 of my favorite window treatment options that will bring an elevated and welcoming feel to your kitchen…
Option 1: Functional Faux or Natural Wood Blinds or Shutters
Wood blinds and shutters can be a great option in your kitchen. These are available in natural wood or faux and are easy to clean if you’re a “hot cook” (is the grease flying everywhere???) or if you just cannot fathom fabric anywhere near food.
Option 2: Soft & Stylish Roman Shades
But since I like a little fabric, I think a roman shade is often the best way to bring softness into the space. And since fabrics are available in literally thousands of color and pattern combinations, from contemporary to eclectic, this choice offers the most options!

Option 3: Simple & Pretty Sheer Shades
Sheer shades are also a great option. These light filtering window coverings offer the benefit of privacy, light blockage, and even temperature control without adding an additional pattern to your space. Sheer shades such as pleated blinds or Silhouettes can give you the best of both worlds.
So how do you choose?
I recommend shutters or wood blinds if your primary concern is privacy and cleanability. But if you want to interject extra pattern and color, a fabric shade might be just the ticket. Soft fabric or sheer shade may be a great option if you need light diffusion and privacy.
