I love window treatments. I think (almost) every window can benefit from some sort of finish treatment to it. Almost all windows need something for privacy. Most need some decoration. While I am big advocate of fabric, it doesn’t need to be fabric.
In the decor biz, you have two distinct window coverings….
AWT – Attached Window Treatments. The common types of AWT include shutters, wood blinds, mini-blinds, rolling shades, woven wood shades and pleated shades. AWT are used for primarily for privacy but now manufacturers are offering such great looks that they can also serve to function as….
CWT – Creative Window Treatments. These are treatments that provide the ‘eye candy’ for the window. The most common of all is a drapery. Draperies have been around forever and can be purchased from the very affordable (think Target!) to totally custom to coordinate with your decor. Draperies ALSO can provide privacy assuming they function (open and close).
The most complete look is a window treatment that incorporates BOTH. Many of the AWT’s are now made of luxurious fabrics that can add that decorative accent while affording privacy. The trick to making windows look finished are the layers. Below are some various options.
All of the window treatments below are culled from various vendors websites.
