The next home project is…The Laundry Room Makeover
I’m always coming up with a new project for my own home. Can’t help it – occupational hazard. I was recently in HomeGoods and found some really fun laundry room accessories in my favorite shades of blue. Since my laundry room is nothing special, I thought I’d use these to give it a makeover.
Years ago I wrote an article called “The starter kit”. You can read it if you like but basically it was about how a simple trip to the hardware store to purchase three little shelves turned into a family room makeover. The starter kit for my laundry room makeover goes something like (well, exactly like) this:
It all started with some icky film on the dishes in the dishwasher. Thinking my smashing, almost-new dishwasher was failing, I called the repair man who said the dishwasher was fine – the water wasn’t. It was hard. Really hard. And “oh-by-the-way” I was washing my dishes all wrong. He gave me some advice, which launched me on my way to home made dishwashing detergent. You can view all the homemade recipes I’m investigating here: HomeMade Cleaning on Pinterest While investigating THIS little project, I was amazed at all the household products you could make from scratch with clean and simple products. No (or fewer) chemicals, no harmful toxins and great results. The Windex replacement is my absolute favorite.
But I digress…from homemade dishwashing detergent, I segued into homemade laundry soap. Which naturally, me being me, needed a pretty container and not some recycled milk jug. Of course, once I had a pretty container for the laundry soap, then the spray cleaners and the homemade swiffer pads, I really needed a new laundry room to house it. AND it had better look good. Here’s some inspiration rooms to get started.
And here’s an idea book created on HOUZZ.com with some of the more spectacular laundry rooms I found:
