A collection can be anything that inspires you and that feature three or more items. Have a penchant for vintage framed maps? Group them, for a bolder statement. Picking up sea shells from the sea shore? Place them in a pretty bowl. Collecting antiques in a big way…go big or go home, baby!
“An expensive crystal bowl looks great in the china cabinet but takes on a life of its own when displayed on a pedestal and lighted to its best advantage.”
Here’s a few tips to get you started.
1. Show it off! Put your collections, even of boring things on display in a unique way. Picture it:
2. Your collections should sing to their own tune and not be muddled with fancy backgrounds, wallpapers or cool wall treatments.
3. Light it up! Especially if your collections are sparkly or moody. Think about how the lighting might enhance the collection.
4. Spread the love…if you’re loaded with pieces, but not space, feature one large item in a solitary space and work the smaller pieces in other places of your home to floooowww…the look.
5. Under glass…dust collectors? Valuable? You might want to put your collection under or behind glass.
6. Kids have treasures too! Just because their pink and plastic, doesn’t mean they’re not important. Take a page from the old Montessori method and ‘display’ your kids toys on shelves for easy access, encouraging play and easing clean up!
