Getting selected for this prestigious event has been almost a lifelong goal for me! My family hails from this area of Southern California and my grandmother was a huge supporter of the same charity that the Pasadena Showcase house supports to this day. You can read more about the good works that is the beneficiary of this charitable event.
For me, it’s such an honor to participate and having three spaces (which we turned into four – more below!) is truly a special opportunity.
Here’s the home how we found it! We’ll add process photos as we progress.
Shopping
Shopping for a showcase project is kind of surreal. As a busy working designer, we’re always taking our clients into consideration first and foremost. For this project it became obvious right away that we needed to have a vision of WHO our client was. Given this is 2020, we felt it only fitting that this home office befit the Lady of the Manor rather than the man of the house. No slight intended to the men out there but in a home this size, suitable for a family of 10, you KNOW that mama will need a space of her own.
A little Bonus
As we started removing the old wallpaper and really spending time in the space we were struck with how spacious but awkward the closet was. So how much fun would it be if the closet were a little bit of surprise. My first thought was to kit it out fully organized like one would USE the space. But then I thought – heck no! This office is on the completely opposite end of the house from the kitchen and if it were MY office, I’d want that closet to have a few…niceties.
Spring Update: An adjustment of PANDEMIC proportions! As our current state of affairs is one of a “stay at home” order, the completion of this project has been slowed and the showing put on hold until the fall. To keep updated, visited the Pasadena Showcase website for updates. For now, we’ll just keep sharing the information here.
