The first consultation is an important part of the creative design process and designed to be what we call a “working appointment.” While not all situations can be addressed, at the end of the meeting, you’ll have a pretty good idea if you’d like for us to work together! At the least, you’ll have some direction and ideas to get you started on your own.
Depending on your goals and how you felt about me (remember, YOU are the boss!), we schedule our next steps. It’s all very painless! To get the most out of our time together, here are three simple tasks for you to do ahead of time:
Task #1: Save and Share Images that Inspire You
My role for our appointment is getting inside your head. To make your project the MOST successful, I need to know your ideal look and style. Sharing photographs, magazine clippings, and Pinterest or HOUZZ boards is the easiest way to communicate your style goals.
Don’t worry if not everything in a picture is exactly what you like! Don’t hesitate to mark up an image, crop out something that doesn’t suit you, or even print and put X’s and O’s.
Task #2: Discuss and Determine Your Project Goals
What is your desired outcome? Consider both our consultation and the big picture. We are going to reverse engineer those goals!
If your long term goal is to refresh your bedroom, for example, but your short term goal is to pick a paint color, know and share the big vision. It makes the smaller decision a component of planning for the big picture.
Task #3: Prepare and Plan to Keep Your Mind Open
During your consultation, I’ll probably ask you for a tour of your home. I want to see what you have to say about your home: what you love, what you’re comfortable with “for now,” and what you simply cannot stand. This feedback is invaluable.
There’s also a chance I’ll ask you to think outside the box a little. My JOB is to come up with things you may not have thought of. And sometimes those things might make you uncomfortable or you may even question the logic of it. One of my skills as a designer is the ability to see your project completed before it begins.
We call our Initial Consultations “value-added.” You can read more about this here. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment below or send me a message.
Ready to schedule that home consultation if you don’t already have one on the books? Let’s talk. We can’t wait to meet you!
Xoxo,
