What is Market?
“Market” is our industry shorthand for one of many regular Interior Design industry events where vendors have assembled their latest offerings in one location for designers from all over to gather and preview. This particular market is the easiest and closest, making it my favorite by default. It’s in Las Vegas. Which is NOT my most favorite, lol. Apologies to those of you that live there and love it or vacation there with pleasure. Too much ring-a-ding-ding and cigarette smoke for this girl 😉. But I DO like that the event has buildings close together and houses most of my go-to resources all together.
So what else do I look for and love?
- I love that I can sit on the furniture I’m going to show you!
- I love that I lift up a piece and see how it’s constructed.
- I love that I can lift it up and see how heavy and SOLID it feels (or not!).
- I love that I can get a sense of the scale of the piece. This is often lost when viewing online.
- So what was NEW this year? LOTS as it turns out.
Understated Luxury
For the last several years there had been a certain sameness that I was frankly getting tired of. Lots of neutrals and naturals and vanilla textures. Nothing wrong with this style and we’ll continue to use and love these but the traditional girl in me was missing the luxury of a few years back and it was back this year in SPADES!!
She’s BAACCKK….COLOR!
And dare we say it…RED is making a coming back. Peeking around several corners of many showrooms was red! And these reds were so lovely, easy to live with reds. Not garish (dare I say it Vegas reds)…rather these were more muted and sophisticated. Again – Understated Luxury!
Even the citrus hues (oranges, lemons and lime oh my!) were on the display but in a wonderful and elegant way.
Mid-Century Mod
MCM was still making a presence but I didn’t feel as bombarded by it as in the last few years. Do not fret if that is YOUR style – your home, your style of course – we are JUST talking trends today. But the MCM items I did see were paired with some truly elevated and luxurious accessories. Gorgeous woods and quality metals.
The New Stuff
Probably the BEST thing about market for me, however is the new finds. I plan for these trips pretty carefully. I schedule appointments with showrooms I know and trust. I want to view their new offerings, of COURSE. But I try not to jam pack my days. I want the time to explore the halls and stumble across new finds. New vendors that I can share with you, my clients that I think you’ll love! Every item I’ve specified over the years is in a client home because of one of these trips, honestly!! I really do NOT shop retail ever. You can do that on your own. It’s my JOB to find unique and beautiful things that you probably don’t otherwise have access to. Of course some vendors show in other boutiques but typically you’ll not find them in mass market which is what makes it fun for you!
This trip was no different. I found a couple of new bedding resources which I’m THRILLED about. I found a LOCAL company with a very beachy vibe that I cannot wait to start using – so fresh and light and fun. I found an amazing outdoor furniture line – finally – that I’m excited by. The list goes on, lol!
